After Reading Bartholomew and the Oobleck by Dr. Seuss, we made our own Oobleck...

Is it a liquid or a solid???

"It's wet" (Liquid)

"It's hard like a solid"

"My hand is stuck"

"You can pick it up" (solid)

"But it starts to drip" (Liquid)

"It takes the shape of the container it is in" (Liquid)

"The spoon got sucked into the goo!"

Well? Solid or Liquid?

...It has properties of both a liquid AND a solid!!!!

Structures and Stability

What does a structure need to be stable?

... "A Strong, sturdy base"

... "Balanced"

What is missing?

"some of the sticks at the base"

What shape is stronger?

"a triangle"

Why?

"a square can collapse" (become a diamond or a parallelogram)

Added some triangles to make our structure more stable...

Experimenting with a flat sturdy base.

A tall structure...

...but not very stable.

Needs a bigger base!
